Nursery Room Leader / Third in Charge
We are currently looking for an experienced Nursery Room Leader to join our established, 25 place pre-school in Walton On Thames.
The preschool is open from 8:00am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday, 51 weeks a year. The successful candidate will work 40 hours over 4 days and will form part of the leadership team, taking a ‘third in charge’ role, whilst also leading the room.

Main duties and responsibilities of the Third in Charge / Nursery Room Leader Walton:
- To assist the nursery manager in the day to day running of the room.
- To support the nursery staff and to ensure that they comply at all times with all policies, procedures and standards, including health and safety, hygiene, inclusion and confidentiality.
- To lead the planning of safe, creative and appropriate opportunities according to children’s needs and interests to fulfil the requirements of the EYFS.
- To develop and maintain good relationships and communication with parents/carers.
- To help supervise and contribute to performance management of staff according to policies and procedure’s.
- Working creatively with children within the EY framework, in order to provide an enabling learning environment for all children.
- Ensuring all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
- To cover for the Deputy and Manager in their absence, stepping up into a lead role in the nursery when required.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have proven experience of working within a childcare setting. (1+years)
- Must hold a relevant Childcare / Early Years qualification equivalent to Level 3 or above.
- Experience of working with the Early Years Foundation Stages.
- Ability to lead the effective planning of learning.
- Ability to set, demonstrate and promote good practice in line with the ethos of the Nursery
- Experience of having kept written records of children’s achievements including observations.
- Excellent communications skills.
Hours
Full time – 40 hours per week over 4 days – Salary is negotiable and will reflect the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
